Ricky is an artist and educator from Huntington Beach and a graduate of HBHS. He is interested in the culture of the California landscape, California History and Surf Culture. He is on the Board of Directors for the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum and the curator of the “Surf Art Corner” at the museum. Ricky has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drawing and Painting from California State University, Long Beach and an Art Education Teaching Credential from CSULB. Ricky has been teaching Middle School for 14 years getting students to create large scale historic and cultural murals and teaching drawing and painting and art history. He is the co-organizer of the surf event the “Surfside 70s” in its 24th year and the creator of the Retro Surf Series combining the HB 80s and Sunset 60s events to make the Triple Crown of Retro Surfing. He writes often about California and Surfing history in local articles/magazines/social media. Ricky’s art influences are: John Severson, HardieGramatky, Howard Pyle, Egon Schiele and Toulouse Lautrec.
